S&D Euro MP Emine Bozkurt commented: 'The constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be reformed immediately to give all citizens equal rights. The leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina had to make a credible effort, but deadline after deadline has been missed and so far they have failed badly'

Said S&D vice president for enlargement and neighbourhood policy, Libor Rouček : 'We call on the Council to grant a date for the opening of accession negotiations without further delays. It is our long-standing positions that bilateral disputes should not hinder the EU's enlargement policy. Equally, however, we call on the Government in Skopje to refrain from nationalist rhetoric that would undermine the pursuit of good neighbourly relations'

Said S&D Euro MP and rapporteur Richard Howitt: 'A further refusal from Europe's Council of Ministers to set a start date for EU accession negotiations with the Government in Skopje, could see the country "walk away" from the European Union altogether'

S&D MEP Pino Arlacchi added: 'This resolution should begin the first large scale attempt to identify, confiscate and repatriate these assets – totalling more than the GDP of all the countries involved put together'

Speaking after the vote, Ms Costello said: 'I am absolutely delighted that the employment and social affairs committee gave my report such a resounding vote of approval. The new fund is an important instrument to alleviate the effects of the economic and social crisis'

Said S&D Euro MP Antigoni Papadopoulou: 'It is encouraging that the European Parliament, the Commission and the Irish Presidency of the Council have successfully concluded their negotiations on this file. It means that the existing European Protection Order Directive that applies to criminal cases will be complemented with a similar one to cover civil matters'
