Putting an end to excess hours in road transport
The Socialist Group, in alliance with a strong trade union mobilisation, confounded expectations in May 2009 and in July 2010 to win an EP majority to reject a Commission proposal on a revised Working Time Directive for Road Transport. The proposed legislation, supported by the EPP, could lead to an 86-hour working week for road transport drivers. However, the European Parliament adopted with a strong majority our Socialist amendment to reject the draft Directive.
