Inclusive Europe, Europe for all
A major policy paper adopted by the Socialist Group in the European Parliament in 2008 sets out 5 building blocks for a Europe of social justice and decent work, arguing that Europe is more than a market. It is a project for peace, democracy, prosperity and solidarity.
The paper rejects the claims of those who argue that Europe, though richer than ever before, can no longer afford high social standards. That nations facing the unrelenting pressure of globalisation should compete to set the lowest rates of taxation and have the fewest workers' rights. Europe’s socialists and social democrats know there is a better way. The paper sets out a vision of a new Social Europe, and explains how to achieve it.
