Pittella: Commissioner Oettinger went beyond his competences with his unacceptable statements on fiscal policy

After the ludicrous statements made by Günther Oettinger - the Commissioner in charge of internet and digital issues - on fiscal policy and on the willingness of the French government to carry out reforms, Gianni Pittella, the president of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, stated:

“Commissioner Oettinger made unacceptable statements going far beyond his competences. We cannot accept this and we urge president Juncker to react harshly.

“The French government is implementing important and austere reforms in economic and social areas. France deserves to be supported in its efforts by the EU and not rebuked like pupils in a class room.”
