Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka today met with Socialist and Democrat (S&D) MEPs and held bilateral talks with S&D Group president Gianni Pittella.

Following the meeting, president Pittella said:

"The time of divisions is behind us. We have to and we will remain united, cohesive and responsible. The Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has personally confirmed the commitment of his government to implement the adopted measures regarding the current migration crisis.

"We welcome the visit of the Czech Premier to our group and welcome the frank, honest but productive exchange we had, not just on migration but also about the long term strategy of the socialist family towards Europe. No member state can face global challenges alone - it is time for the entire progressive family to stand united behind our principles of solidarity and shared responsibility. We praise Prime Minister Sobotka for showing the willingness to do this and for the impressive social and economic reforms he has achieved to date.

"The socialist family is a place where discussions are passionate and real but always constructive and in line with our overarching progressive values."
