Pittella: S&D Group congratulates the new Prime Minister of FYR Macedonia Zoran Zaev

Following the announcement of Zoran Zaev as the new Prime Minister of FYR Macedonia, S&D Group president Gianni Pittella said:

"The S&D Group congratulates the new Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and the SDSM Party after the vote in the parliamentary assembly confirmed the composition of the new government. We are encouraged by Mr Zaev’s constructive language when presenting his programme to the parliament and we welcome his commitment to pursue an inclusive and reformist consensus on the Pržino Agreement and the ‘Urgent Reform Priorities’.

“Implementing these reforms is essential to put the country back on the path towards European integration, which all parties have committed to and which the country's citizens want and deserve. The S&D Group is ready to work with the country in fulfilling these aspirations and advancing the necessary reforms to move the country forward. Our Group's MEPs have been actively engaged in mediating the political situation in the country. However, we hope this stage has now passed and that we can now work together to improve citizens lives.”
