Following the outcome of the presidential elections in Bulgaria, the leader of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella commented:
"The S&D Group welcomes the clear outcome of Sunday's presidential election in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian people have shown they are ready for change, for a better future.
"Both the elected president, General Rumen Radev, and Iliana Iotova will work effectively for the interests of Bulgaria within the frame of the EU. They have our full support and trust. Bulgaria is facing serious challenges, particularly related to migration and development. On this, as well as on many other issues, we are convinced that Bulgaria will positively play its important role for the good of the Bulgarian people and for solidarity inside the European Union."
