Commenting on the Sweden Democrats Party, S&D Group president, Gianni Pittella said:
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Social Democratic Prime Minister Stefan Löfvens having managed to achieve a long-lasting stable political agreement on how to deal with the Sweden Democrats’ neofascist irresponsible policies.
"The governing parties and the opposition parties in Sweden announced today that an agreement has been reached which ensures that a minority government is able to govern in Sweden in a stable manner. This means that the neofascist party of the Sweden Democrats can no longer black mail any minority government.
"This sends an important signal to the rest of Europe and to us in the European Parliament. Populist and xenophobic parties must not be able to bring havoc to our democratic governments within our countries. The Social Democratic party of Löfven is once again showing the way forward!"
