Quote of the week by S&D Group president, Udo Bullmann

"We, Socialists and Democrats, always stand for the respect of the rule of law, democracy and human rights. Only by respecting these values can we guarantee European pluralism and diversity, and make sure that all EU countries, including the smaller ones, preserve their identity."

Upcoming activities

Busy days ahead in the Parliament, as we get ready for some interesting events and we prepare for the upcoming Plenary Session in Strasbourg.  Stay tuned!

During this weekend our Group President, Udo Bullmann will be joining the French PS Congress in Paris. Follow us on Twitter to see the latest developments on his mission. Our MEPs will be busy dealing with several issues including the draft resolution on the Selmayr case.

On Thursday, our members will squeeze the Commission on the topic of neonicotinoids, which - according to the European Food Safety Agency - are harmful for bees and other pollinators.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Group will discuss topics on the agenda of the next plenary session in Strasbourg which will include the Circular economy, energy efficiency in buildings and a resolution on the Middle East.

We’re also curious to hear what President Emmanuel Macron will have to say on the Future of the EU.

On Monday, April 9, we will be joining our partners at FEPS for a conference on Fair, Modern and Efficient Corporate Taxation System in the EU. We’ll be hearing from specialists and politicians alike. Find more details about the speakers and the programme here.

Workers’ rights and safety will always be one of the core principles of our policies, as Social-Democrats. This is why on Wednesday, April 11, we will be holding a conference on Decent working conditions and the Revision of the Written Statement Directive. Our MEPs Maria João Rodrigues, Agnes Jongerius, Javi López and Simon Siôn are on board and will share their views with specialists and members of trade unions in a debate that will surely be of interest.

The event will take place in the European Parliament, from 15.00 to 18.30. More details here.

Tuesday is also the day when we will be hosting a hearing on Citizens Conventions: a progressive perspective. Our Constitutional Affairs spokesperson Mercedes Bresso will be joined by our vice-presidents Maria João Rodrigues and Josef Weidenholzer to discuss with specialists about organizing such conventions and turning them into a success for European Integration.

The event will take place on April 11, from 15.00 to 18.30 in the European Parliament and will be webstreamed.

We are also preparing our next #EuropeTogether debate on Managing Migration and Supporting Refugees in a Globalised World, which will be held in Hamburg, on April 12. Migration is no longer a phenomenon that affects only those displaced. It’s a global concern which we must address fast!

We are going to hear from specialists, politicians, African leaders, UN representatives and NGOs.

Registrations are open and the programme is available on our platform.

The event will be preceded by a meeting with MEPs, under the umbrella of our Together - Go Local events. Find out more details and register here.
