The Progressive Alliance conference  "Investing in Education ", co-organised by the S&D Group and hosted by PS Portugal,  was held in Lisbon on 4 - 5 December 2014.  This  exciting event gathered more than 100 delegates from progressive parties and organisations all over the globe, including Party Leaders Antonio Costa, Sigmar Gabriel, Pedro Sánchez and PES President Sergei Stanishev. Vice-president Enrique  Salom Guerrero replaced our Leader Gianni Pittella, who unfortunately was unable to participate due to prior commitments. Our Vice-president Maria João Rodrigues, Secretary General Javier Moreno and a number of our MEPs  took part in the two panel discussions.

The Conference offered a platform for a global exchange on the most pressing needs in education. This year, a special emphasis was given to the coordination on a parliamentary level. The Progressives made a commitment to dedicate at least 20% of national budgets to education and lifelong learning in order to reduce social and gender inequalities at their roots and fight against intolerance and violence.
