Our democracy is under threat, with an alarming rise in attacks on freedom of expression and the press in Europe, and right-wing governments undermining the rule of law and EU values.
Any threat against a free press is a threat to democracy and in many countries across Europe attacks on freedom of expression and the press are symptomatic of an anti-democratic shift in our political systems and societies.
This shift is also seen in the way some governments, especially in Hungary and Poland, are steadily eroding the laws and values of their countries, stifling debate, slashing fundamental rights and attacking the judiciary. We the Socialists and Democrats will not let this happen and have stood up to anti-democratic behaviour again and again. Tell us what the situation is in your country and how you think we can turn the tide in favour of democracy.
