Following the unfortunate statement of the EPP Group leader, Manfred Weber, commenting on the international summit held today in Athens, S&D president, Gianni Pittella, stated:
"An attack against Hollande and Renzi on economic responsibility from a close political friend of Schäuble and Barroso would be funny if it wasn't pathetic.
"Manfred Weber should focus his attention on his austerity hawk friends - those really responsible for European stagnation - rather than pointing his fingers at those delivering economic recovery after years of disastrous conservative leadership.
"Weber and the EPP should finally redeem themselves from their faith in austerity, be responsible, and support European policies in favour of investment and economic growth. This is the only way for Europe. This is the only way to continue our cooperation in the European Parliament."
