Following the terrorist attack on the Radisson Hotel today in Bamako, Mali, the President of the S&D Group Gianni Pittella said:

“After the horrifying events in Beirut and Paris, the Jihadist attack today in Mali demonstrates once again that this bloody ideology knows no boundaries. The fight against fundamentalism requires a common long lasting strategy from the international community and the most relevant and affected African countries. In this regard, the on-going G5 Sahel summit in Chad attended by HRVP Federica Mogherini is to be welcomed. Closer cooperation with African countries is vital if we are to tackle extremism, it must focus on social and economic development as well as security if it is going to be successful.”
