The UN global migration and refugee compacts are the driving force for multilateralism and global decision-making as opposed to narrow-minded short-term nationalistic stances. It aims to guide migration in a safe and orderly manner, reduce the impact of irregular migration and ensure the dignity and protection of all migrants. This goal naturally requires common international approaches; separate national approaches would run into a dead end.
Upcoming activities
Busy days ahead in the Parliament, as we’re getting ready for important votes in committees and in plenary. We also have some interesting events coming up. Stay tuned!
During the plenary, we will keep an eye on the debate with Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who will talk about the Future of Europe.
We’ll also follow the European Commission’s statement on the single market package, further our work on climate change, the enlargement package, the 2019 budget and the CumEx scandal.
There are important votes in different parliamentary committees on border controls, the fiscal compact, the globalisation adjustment fund, and the risk assessment in the food chain, and we are also keeping an eye on the hearings with Kering, Google and Facebook.
Next Tuesday, our Vice President and co-rapporteur Jeppe Kofod will present the draft report of the TAX3 inquiry committee.

Our latest initiative, Progressive Society, will be also launching its report this Tuesday.
We have worked with a group of independent experts to design a roadmap to fight the imbalances created by globalisation and digitalisation and pave the way for a society with Sustainable Equality at its core. Our president Udo Bullmann, former Prime Minister of Denmark Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and the Chair of the Board of the National Bank of Greece Louka Katseli will present the new report of Progressive Society’s Independent Commission for Sustainable Equality during a press conference that will be web streamed on Tuesday at 10:30.
We’re also organising two important #EuropeTogether events.
The first one is in collaboration with our partners at FEPS, and is scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday, 26-27 November, in Brussels.
