Quote of the week: S&D president, Udo Bullmann, reacting on the results of elections in Denmark

We congratulate the Social Democrats in Denmark on their success in the national elections! Danish people, just like many Europeans two weeks ago, have voted for change and an end to the Conservative standstill. Following the recent victories of the Social Democrats in Finland and Sweden, we are proud and happy to see that progressive forces in Scandinavia are back!

This development shows that there is a new progressive momentum growing in Europe.

Upcoming activities

Albania has come a long way on its path to a European future and is ready for the next phase of EU accession. At the end of June, the European Council, again, has the possibility to open doors for Albania to start accession negotiations with the EU, as recommended by the European Commission. In this context, together with our S&D spokesperson on foreign affairs, EP rapporteur on Albania MEP Knut Fleckenstein, and the ruling Socialist Party from Albania, we will host a conference on Albania's European perspective. The event will be held on Tuesday June 11 from 10h00 - 12h00, in room ASP 3G3, in the European Parliament, and will be followed by the press conference in the Politkovskaya press room at 12h30.

Our partners at FEPS (the Foundation for European Progressive Studies) will be organising the 8th Call to Europe conference, on June 13 - 15, right here, in Brussels. We will join them in this year’s Call to Europe, which starts from the premise that our digital future is not just determined by technology, that climate change is not just about physics, and that your chances in life should not be conditioned by your gender. These are political issues, for which we need to find progressive policies.

More details on the event, as well as the registration form, can be found here

Exciting days ahead, as we get ready for the first Group meeting together with both outgoing and incoming Members. We are happy to welcome our newly elected deputies and we will bid farewell to the members of the last mandate, thanking them for their ceaseless work in the past five years.
