On July 6, the Slovak Prime Minister Róbert Fico presented the presidency program to the European Parliament. S&D leader Gianni Pittella recognised that Slovakia "has a very difficult task." He called on the Presidency to defend good values stemming from European history "tooth and nail" and expressed the hope that it would help to adopt "strong and tangible proposals that will unite Europe," for instance on combatting tax evasion. On migration he said to Mr. Fico:

"You mentioned security and tackling the root causes of migration flows. We agree.
However, there is one word missing, Prime Minister: WELCOMING! Welcoming and relocation among the European countries of people fleeing war and terrorism.
Say this word!
You will feel better with yourself and with the values that you said you want to defend!"
