Quote of the week by S&D president Iratxe García Pérez on the launch of our latest Progressive Society report

“We need a global vision translated into very concrete proposals in order to move towards a fairer and more sustainable society, based on solidarity. We want to overcome the logic of economic growth to put people at the centre of our political action.”

THIS WEEK

This week our leader Iratxe García alongside S&D vice-president Eric Andrieu and former Danish Prime Minister and co-chair of the ICSE Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, have presented our latest Progressive Society Report The Great Shift.

242 policy proposals and 10 game changers are the result of a 22-head strong expert group working together under the leadership of Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, and Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Teresa Ribera to find solutions on how to overcome today’s meta-crisis and  build sustainable well-being societies. You can download and read the entire report here.

COMING UP

And stay tuned for more to come: On 12 November, the report will be politically launched in Paris, in the presence of the mayor of Paris and candidate for the presidential elections Anne Hidalgo and many other members of the progressive family. This event - THE GREAT SHIFT - From a broken world to sustainable well-being - will be the kick-start for turning ground-breaking new thinking into political action to build a sustainable and fair future for all. More information and how to register to join the event in Paris will be on the S&D website soon. Live streaming at https://www.socialistsanddemocrats.eu/.

This weekend marks the launch of this year’s UN Climate Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. A delegation of our MEPs will be present and ready to stand up for our commitments on addressing the climate emergency, while making sure that it’s not the people who foot the bill.
