Quote of the week

The Greek crisis is the result of lack of real European economic coordination and of policies imposed by right-wing parties that prioritise the markets over the people. With their misled austerity dogma, conservatives have failed to bring back decent living conditions and dignity to the Greek people. We come to Greece because we, Socialists and Democrats, offer an alternative. We propose a Europe that is inclusive, open, fair and sustainable, that works for the many, not only the few.
- Udo Bullmann, on his first visit to Greece as Group President

Upcoming activities
Next week our members in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) lead by our MEP Mady Delvaux will be holding a vote on investment funds. Also on Monday, in the Committee on Transport and Tourism we’ll be voting on alternative fuels, a file coordinated by our rapporteur Ismail Ertug MEP, which is important to us, as Group.
On Thursday we’ll be voting in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and Trade Committees on the import on cultural goods, a file on which our MEP Alessia Mosca is rapporteur.

We will also be preparing for the upcoming Strasbourg Plenary session.

Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter where we will react as soon as the action takes place!

Next week our Group will also be holding an event on Making the Child Guarantee a reality. On Wednesday, 26 September, from 15.00 onwards, our President, Udo Bullmann and our MEPs Mercedes Bresso, Agnes Jongerius, Brando Benifei, Vilija Blinkeviciute will be joining Yonnec Polet, the Deputy Secretary General of PES and Pau Mari-Klose, the High Commissioner against Child Poverty, and others for a debate on putting an end to child poverty. The initiative is a proposal of our Group and we will fully back its implementation, as it is an essential part of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
The event will be webstreamed on www.socialistsanddemocats.eu and registrations are still open.

Next week we are also preparing for our upcoming #EuropeTogether event. The debate is going to Vienna this time, where we’ll be discussing about the rule of law. You can register and see the full programme here.
