Quote of the week by S&D president, Udo Bullmann
We strongly protest against the removal of the First President of the Polish Supreme Court, Małgorzata Gersdorf, and other judges from their offices. We admire their determination and responsibility towards ensuring the respect of the Polish Constitution. Poland is a great nation. The Poles should be treated according to the highest standards. The PiS government must stop dismantling Polish democracy!

Last Week's Highlights

Upcoming activities
Another busy week in the European Parliament. We’ll be tackling work-life balance (Wednesday) and dual quality products (Thursday), two topics of high importance to EU citizens and which constitute priorities for us, as well. In addition, we are looking forward to the vote in the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, on combating mobbing and sexual harassment at the workplace and public spaces.

On Tuesday, the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on a report on pesticides, dealing with the implementation of the Plant Protection Products Regulation. The evaluation by the Parliamentary Research Services showed that the Regulation has not been effectively implemented, and that as a result its health and environment objectives are not being achieved in practice.

Next week, we are also looking forward to a report on possible actions against Unfair Trade Practices in the food supply chain, by our MEP Paolo De Castro. Our Group is fighting for a common European legal framework, a minimum common standard of protection across the EU able to harmonise the over 20 different national regulations, and prohibit all over Europe specific Unfair Trade Practices.

Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter where we will react as soon as the action takes place.

Also, next week we will be hosting our tenth Latin American Forum right here, in the European Parliament. The event is scheduled to take place on July 11, and this year’s topic is Our Proposal for the Enforceability of Trade and Sustainable Development Clauses (TSD) in Trade Agreements: The case of Peru. Among the speakers joining the discussion, you’ll be able to listen to our MEPs Elena Valenciano, Carlos Zorrinho, Ramón Jáuregui, Inmaculada Rodriguez-Piñero and Francisco Assis. Follow this link for more details about speakers and the programme of the day.

On July 11 -12, our #EuropeTogether team will be joining the Young European Socialists for their yearly Summer Camp. We’ll be off to Rota, in Spain, for two interesting workshops on Youth empowerment in a Progressive economy and Progressive activism and participation in the EU elections.
