The DMER's main activity was to make a positive contribution to the EU-Mercosur negotiations on the signing of an Association Agreement between the two blocs. The success of the negotiations for the future EU-Mercosur Association Agreement paved the way for the creation of the largest free-trade area in the world and will strengthen inter-parliamentary links between the EP and the Congresses of the Mercosur States. In this regard, the DMER has a key role to play in establishing closer contacts between legislators on both sides of the Atlantic.
