Introduction 

The Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D Group) opens a procedure for 1 post for a Spanish-language Press officer - administrator, Temporary Agent at grade AD 5, pursuant to article 2(c) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union (CEOS), for its secretariat in Brussels.

Nature of the duties and profile

The position requires relevant experience, technical skills and general competences, to be carried out in line with the political priorities and values of the S&D Group. The press officer provides assistance and support to the Members of the European Parliament of the S&D Group in the carrying out of tasks, the nature of which varies according to the needs of the specific Press and Communication department, and may include the following under the supervision of the respective management: 

  • Draft Press Releases, lines-to-take, opinion-pieces, speeches, speaking points and video scripts
  • Conceive, plan and implement communication plans and strategies.
  • Liaise with the accredited press corps in Brussels, in Spain and pitch stories to the media.
  • Ensure that information is appropriately targeted on relevant specialist media.
  • Draft and place articles for the S&D Group including Leadership in national and European media.
  • Liaise with policy advisors, social media team, audio-visual team, web and publications team and others on the communication in relevant policy areas.
  • Organise and moderate press events, press briefings and interviews.
  • Advise on content to be published on the website.
  • Write in English as well as in Spanish, Press Releases and Communications for the Group when required.
  • Contribute to the regular maintenance and updating of the media database and distribution lists, as well as to the monitoring of the media impact and coverage of the Group.
  • Cooperate closely with the Head of Unit and Head of Department to ensure the smooth running of the Department, especially proposing media initiatives. 

The post of press officer demands availability and flexibility, a methodological approach, discretion, loyalty, confidentiality and a capacity for rapid adaptation to varying duties in a political environment. Candidates must show initiative, both independently and while working in a team, and be able to adapt to a multicultural environment. Lastly, they must be ready to carry out professional training throughout their career.
