According to the 2024 Eurobarometer spring survey, EU citizens understand the significance of these elections in today's geopolitical landscape. More than eight out of ten people (81%) believe that the current context makes voting even more crucial.
The research also highlights the main topics European citizens want politicians to focus on. They're most concerned about fighting poverty and social exclusion and improving public health, with about a third of people mentioning each. Jobs and the economy are also important, along with EU defence and security, with about 31% of people mentioning these.
People are also paying more attention to EU defence and security now, especially because of Russia's aggression towards Ukraine. This issue has become more important to people over the past few years.
