Ahead of a #EuropeTogether conference in Budapest about how to build a more social Europe, S&D president Udo Bullmann expressed his support to the citizens collecting signatures to make sure that the Hungarian government responds to accusations of fraud, irregularities and conflict of interest related to EU-funded projects.

S&D Group president Udo Bullmann said:

“Our European regional and social funds are made for real regions and real people as well as responsible mayors, not for greedy oligarchs. If there are countless cases of fraud and infringement detected by OLAF, our European Anti-Fraud-Office, and a totally unsatisfactory follow-up by national authorities, as in Hungary, this is harming the virtuous regions which really need our support.

“I support the initiative of more than half a million Hungarian citizens to insist that Orbán collaborates with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. In the future, no government should be allowed to stay passive and allow for European money to be stolen from real regions and real people.”
