On Thursday, the newly elected leader of the S&D Group Udo Bullmann starts his tour of the European Union’s capital cities in Budapest, Hungary. During the two days visit he will meet representatives from think tanks, trade unions and media. He will also talk with the leaders of the Hungarian political parties that are members of the S&D family, including Democratic Coalition (DK) chairman, former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) candidate for prime-minister, Dialogue for Hungary co-chair Karácsony Gergely.
There will be two press points for journalists: on Thursday at 3pm (Teréz krt. 46, 5. em) and on Friday at 10.00am (Képviselői Irodaház, Széchenyi rakpart 19.)
Ahead of his visit, Udo Bullmann said:
“This is my first foreign trip as the new leader of the S&D Group. I decided to go to Budapest to underline just how much importance we attach to Hungary. It is the place where the big questions on Europe are being decided: whether we are going to defend Europe as a free, democratic and civil society or if we will allow the illiberal drift to continue.
“The purpose of my visit here is to mostly listen and to learn what Hungarians expect from Europe and how the S&D Group can better support Hungary’s democrats.
“I am very concerned by the different actions the Hungarian government has taken over the past few years to limit the space for civil society and to control the media. We, Socialists and Democrats, always stand for the respect of the rule of law, democracy and human rights. Only by respecting these values can we guarantee European pluralism and diversity, and make sure that all EU countries, including the smaller ones, preserve their identity.
“I also want to support our political allies in Hungary in their fight for social justice and gender equality. Hungarian citizens, as all Europeans, deserve a better health system, a better educational system and more workers protection.”

Udo Bullmann, az S&D frakció újonnan megválasztott vezetője első külföldi útja során Budapestre látogat
Az Európai Parlament Szocialisták és Demokraták Képviselőcsoportjának (S&D) újonnan megválasztott vezetője, Udo Bullmann április 5-én, csütörtökön Budapesten kezdi meg európai uniós körútját. A két napos látogatása során civilszervezetek, szakszervezetek és a média képviselőivel tárgyal, de találkozik Karácsony Gergellyel, az MSZP és a Párbeszéd közös miniszterelnök-jelöltjével, valamint Gyurcsány Ferenccel, a Demokratikus Koalíció elnökével is.
Udo Bullmann várhatóan csütörtökön 15:00-kor (Teréz krt. 46, 5.emelet) és pénteken 10:00-kor (Képviselői Irodaház, Széchenyi rakpart 19.) tart nyilvános sajtótájékoztatót.
A látogatás előtt Udo Bullmann a következőket mondta el:
„Ez az első külföldi látogatásom az S&D frakció új vezetőjeként. Azért döntöttem a budapesti utazás mellett, mert ezzel is hangsúlyozni szeretném, hogy milyen fontos számunkra Magyarország. Ez az a hely, ahol nagy kérdések dőlnek el Európáról: megvédjük-e Európát, mint szabad, demokratikus társadalmat, vagy engedjük az illiberalizmus tovább burjánzását.”
„Látogatásom legfőbb célja, hogy meghallgassam és megtudjam mit várnak a magyarok Európától, és hogy hogyan támogathatja még aktívabban az S&D frakció Magyarországon a demokratikus ellenzéki erőket.”
„Aggodalommal tölt el a magyar kormány az utóbbi években tett számos lépése, amellyel egyre jobban korlátozta a civil társadalom lehetőségeit, és amelynek során átvette a média ellenőrzését. Mi, szocialisták és európai demokraták mindig kiállunk a jogállamiság, a demokrácia és az emberi jogok mellett. Csak ezen értékek mentén és ezek tiszteletével garantálhatjuk az európai pluralitást és sokszínűséget, és csak így biztosíthatjuk, hogy az összes EU-s ország, ideértve a kis tagállamokat is megőrizzék identitásukat.”
„Támogatom a magyar politikai szövetségeseinket a szociális igazságosság és a nemek közötti egyenlőségért folytatott harcukban. A magyar állampolgárok, csak úgy, mint az összes európai egy jobb egészségügyi-, jobb oktatási rendszert és több munkavállalói védelmet érdemelnek.”
