On the results of the national elections in Denmark, S&D Group leader Udo Bullmann states:

“We congratulate the Social Democrats in Denmark on their success in the national elections! Danish people, just like many Europeans two weeks ago, have voted for change and an end to the Conservative standstill. Following the recent victories of the Social Democrats in Finland and Sweden, we are proud and happy to see that progressive forces in Scandinavia are back!

“This development shows that there is a new progressive momentum growing in Europe. Social inequalities and climate change urge us to act now and put our societies and economies on a new track of sustainable well-being for all. For this, our S&D Group in the European Parliament has developed a clear programme, inspired by the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We need, now more than ever, social democratic leaders in Europe to make this agenda a reality!”

Jeppe Kofod, S&D vice-president and head of the Danish delegation, added:

“This election marks a clear victory for our political family and indeed for all progressive political forces in Denmark. The Danes have clearly rejected the cutbacks, austerity and socially unbalanced reforms of the previous liberal-conservative government. It is time to prioritise welfare, fight climate change and end the harmful block-politics of the past.”
