Our work in Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee

Our MEPs are strongly committed to fight all forms of discrimination. Defending fundamental rights for everyone as key goal. We want to close the employment and pay gaps that affect women all over Europe on everyday basis.  Our goal and priority, among those listed below, is to combat all forms of violence against women.

Our priorities

  • To conclude the Work life balance directive before the end of this term in order to improve maternity leave rights and guarantee paternity leave so fathers get rights to spend time with their children and partners.

  • Revising the 2006 Equal Treatment Directive to introduce effective sanctions in order to promote equal treatment and pay for men and women.

  • Adopting coherent legislation to promote equal sharing of responsibilities between men and women. There is a need to implement measures in the informal care system and to acknowledge invisible and low paid work of women in these areas.

  • Reinforcing non-legislative measures to promote innovative working time arrangements in order to conciliate work and family life, understood in broad terms.

  • Strategic and public investment to provide more high quality, affordable childcare.

  • To urge the EU to ratify the Istanbul Convention on combatting violence against women.

  • To promote the role of women in ICT (Information and communications technology) sector and their leadership roles in the digital economy.

  • To consolidate and expand the  sexual health and reproductive rights for women and girls.

  • To introduce fair taxation

  • To ensure that gender equality and women's rights perspectives are present in all sectorial policies.

  • To pay attention and recognise new forms of harassment with the introduction of new technologies and find common definitions and gender indicators to evaluate the women's rights.
